Hi there! Today we're going to learn how to make Pokémon Gym badges Ally-style! I like to think my tutorials tend to be fairly easy to follow, just just read everything carefully and you should do just fine. ^^
Things You Will Need
Let's get started!
First things first; we need to decide what our badge is going to look like. Generally, I decide the theme or type first. Let's say we're going to make a badge for an electric gym. Usually what I would do at this point is perform a Google image search for "electricity symbol" or "lightning symbol" or something to that effect. It works wonders. Here's a fun one I found:
Now we need to create a new sprite in Aseprite. Go to File>New. I like to start with a 40x40 sprite and just make it bigger as needed. make sure your background is set to transparent and then click okay!
The first thing you want to do is create another layer. We're going to be working with colours that are very close to the transparency checker and that tends to get annoying. So once you have your new layer created with Layer>New Layer, Fill the bottom layer with a colour you won't be using much of (I will be filling with pink).
Okay! Make sure to switch back to your top layer and start using whatever tool you're most comfortable with to create your design using a dark version of your main colour. Here's my finished outline:
It looks a bit crappy now, but just wait. Next, Select the main colour of your badge and go ahead and fill 'er in.
And now we move along to something called "increments" on our badge. Think of this as sort of an aura. You want it to be a very light blue. And make a two pixel wide border around your badge.
Now we add the sheen effect. Select a lighter shade of your main colour and add two thick diagonal bands across the badge. Ignore your outline colour. Then on our light blue increment, follow those bands with white.
Now for some more incrementing! Select a dark grey and make another two pixel border.
Now for the last step insofar as pixel work! Select a light grey and add some shiny highlights to a light-source. For the purposes of Forella League, I tend to make all the light sources on the left.
And there you have it! Now all that's left is to delete that bottom fill layer and save it as a PNG (or else you will lose transparency when saving to another type)!
